Home CCTV
Morning all

I'm toying with the idea of getting a home CCTV system and thinking maybe 4 cameras.

Any recommendations / advice would be most welcome

Re: Home CCTV
Why are you thinking of putting in CCTV? If you go ahead liaise with your neighbours about the positioning of cameras so they are aware as you may end up pointing one that's close to invading their privacy, daft I know, but people get upset at things at the drop of a hat.

Why - do you live in a crime ridden area?

Re: Home CCTV
if you don't have paranoia, you probably soon would have with one of those systems. install it on your mobile and you'd probably be on edge every time you left the house

Re: Home CCTV
Get a system that reliably timestamps every frame. You need to be able to place pictures in context if you plan to use them as legal evidence at any time.

Home security, peace of mind etc etc no peeping tom stuff or anything seedy

We've lived in the house for 18 years and never had a problem but had somebody come into our house via an unlocked patio door yesterday and they stole something. We were all at work apart from my youngest son who was in his bedroom and didn't hear anything.

Get something half decent. Install motion sensors and motion lights for back and front door.

Should you need it to come in use you wont want something cheap and cheerful

Hello Mace66 Son - hope youre well

Funnily enough been thinking about this recently too. My mate has one of those Ring doorbells with the camera and on Tuesday night it recorded a couple of little shits trying to break in.

Personally I'm leaning more towards actual burglar alarms with a big yellow box stuck on the house. Would rather put them off than catch them in the act

Re: Home CCTV
Troy - true, but cameras will hopefully be a deterrent too. I've also got a Ring doorbell which is pretty good.

Re: Home CCTV
Remember going with my then Bruv in Law to a house in Reading to pick up a concrete garage (long story).. anyway the couple who we bought the garage from had more cameras outside their house than I have ever seen... in their front room they had screens everywhere... said they would sit there night after night just watching CCTV... think they said they had been broken into three times before.... what a shitty way to live

Re: Home CCTV
Ring pro doorbell, Ring security camera and light and a decent alarm system. I have all three, and a rottweiler. The ring doorbell sends notifications of all movements in front of the house at a angle of around 140 degrees which means you can get a sound as they are walking towards your property. It's easy to set up with a direct connection to your fuse box. The Ring 1 doorbell uses rechargeable batteries so is easier to install but doesn't come with the door chime box.

If you're getting 4 cameras then get a 2TB box so you will still get 14-21 days recording (good if you are on holiday).
